The Guards Look 'T' Posed. by QuilloManar The Guards Look 'T' Posed. by QuilloManar
These are only examples, I want you to try and not only emulate them, but come up with some of your own. To help with this I just want you to ask yourself, "How would I (or a family member, or a friend) react to being in this situation?" then you need to try and map that feeling into a pony's pose.

Thank you for posting to Equestrian Academy, I hope this helps!

Uhm. This is may nice. And helpful, but not for royal guards...
Royal Guards, even in that situation, they should do something. That alright. But This chacthers are made or trained to control themselves, and the original pic is focasing on Princesses and Trixie. Backgroud is important, but I think you made a really big deal about this, Is tutorial. But just, It doesn't fit for me and I apoligize for such.

Well, there are two things that you have to remember.

1 - They are ponies;
It is my belief that ponies are far, far more expressive in their emotions than humans, so it stands to reason that they may still leak some of that emotion in certain circumstances.

2 - Their rulers were just defeated;
Royal Guards exist for two purposes, protecting the ponies, and protecting the princesses. Seeing the princesses defeated and essentially enslaved would overrule the majority of a guard's training.

The main point I was trying to get across was to not have the guards be in any standard position. You need to vary them in order for the scene to look more realistic.

...

Side note -
Trixie defeated the Princesses, correct?
So, it's likely she'd need to get through some guards on the way, correct?
And it's probably that the closer she got to the princesses the more experienced the guards, correct?

So, seeing that she's won, she must have also taken out the more experienced guards, who's to say that the only remaining guards are the inexperienced cadets and privates who weren't assigned to the princesses at the time?
